Spring Allergies Make a Comeback

The runny noses, itchy eyes and the sneezing are all back thanks to pollen. These tiny grains send around 50 million people’s immune systems into overdrive which leads the body’s antibodies to attack allergens. When the allergens are attacked it leads to a release of a chemical called histamines into the blood and triggers the runny nose, itchy eyes and the sneezing.

There are many medications that help subside symptoms but there are also some natural remedies that are proven to have a better effect. A few of these options are eating honey produced by bees in your region. Since bees transfer pollen from plant to plant if you eat a little honey each day your body can get used to the irritating effects of spring allergies.

Eucalyptus oil is another natural remedy that can soothe allergies. Opening up the sinus and nasal passages it will relieve the very common stuffy nose that accompanies allergies. There are a few ways to expose oneself to this oil, a common method is adding a few drops to a bowl of steaming water and inhaling the steam. One less common method is adding a few drops onto your shower floor before you hop in.

Neti Pots are one of the more common methods to relieving allergies. These are mainly to help out with stuffy noses and relieve your nasal cavity. Neti pots are quite simple to use, first filling the pot with a distilled warm water and salt solution then tilting the head and pouring the water in one nostril until it comes out the other.
