One Size Does Not Fit All

Jeans have always been a staple piece to an outfit in the world of fashion; they are a classic article of clothing. However, it becomes tricky knowing what brand, style, fit and or color to purchase that satisfies the needs of the individual. Comparing four brands – True Religion, Hollister, Abercrombie and Adriano Goldschmied –  looking specifically at the jeans each company advertises and sells.

Widely popular, Hollister jeans are a favorite among many, including students at Orono. They range at a price of $49.95-$59.95 (sales are frequent, with some jeans priced at $24.00). According to the Hollister website, they come in five styles of super skinny, crop, boyfriend jean, boot and jean legging. They come in a wide variety of washes, sizes and colors.

They come in a wide variety of washes, sizes and colors.

The Hollister jeans wear well, at first. However, overtime, the seam on the inner thigh tends to wear a bit, and the underside of the bottom of the jeans wears as well. The fit seems to be geared more towards women with a straight figures, not curvier women. Additionally, they tend to run long in the leg length.

A brand similar to Hollister, and just as popular, is Abercrombie. They offer jeans similar to Hollister, with a price range, according to the Abercrombie website, of $78.00-$88.00. They come in more styles than Hollister: super skinny, boyfriend, jean legging, boot, skinny and flare. They come in many colors, rises and washes. They have a more cityvibe to their jeans.

These jeans are a small step up in quality from Hollister, available in a nice variety of colors and they wear longer than Hollister jeans. They too run long in the leg (built for women with long legs), and they stretch a bit with wear and may need to be shrunk in the dryer every once in awhile.

True Religion, a more luxurious brand, offers the infamous horseshoe logo on their jeans in a price range of $189.00-$387.00. According to the True Religion website, they offer styles in: legging, super skinny, skinny, straight leg, bootcut, flare, boyfriend and curvy. Additionally, they come in a wide range of colors, washes, sizes, fits, inseams, and  flap options. They are made in the USA, which partially contributes to the higher price.

These jeans have an excellent fit, on the tighter side, for customers who want this fit. The color and wear of the jeans is unique to each pair of jeans, and they fit true to the length, leg wise. The wash is attractive to the eye. However, the inseam on the thigh tends to wear and even rip or tear after some use and wear.

A step up from True Religion, Adriano Goldschmied is a brand of luxury, ranging in price from $178.00 to $998.00. According to the Adriano Goldschmied (AG) website, they come in an endless variety of color, fit (including maternity), style, washes, sizes and fabric (including leather). The logo on the jeans is similar to a music note in looks, and the style and vibe is that of sophistication.

These jeans wear well and are attractive in color and have a pretty logo on the back pockets of the jeans, They fit well, but stretch just a little with wear. The quality is evident with the feel and look of the fabric.

Overall, I would rate from worst to best jeans in the order of: Hollister, Abercrombie, True Religion, and Adriano Goldschmied. This is based off of wear, fit, color, and wash.
