On August 29, Orono High School’s football team head coach Jeff Weiland celebrated his 100th career win during the first game of his 13th year of coaching. Coach Weiland received his 100th win against Glencoe Silver Lake, with the game ending in a score of 33-25. Although Weiland says that it would have been great to have gained his 100th win during the playoffs of last year’s season, he still felt a great sense of accomplishment in having his 100th win be against Glencoe in the first game of this year’s season and starting the season off right.

“I didn’t think about it as much as I did during the playoffs of last year when I had 99 wins and could have won and then gone on to sections, but it was still quite a special feeling the way coach Thompson talked about it and you guys (the team) all clapped. It was very special.”

Not only was Weiland glad to start off the 2014 season with his 100th win, but he was excited to see the way the team played against an opponent like Glencoe and expects to gain quite a few more wins during this year’s season to add to his 100.

Make sure to congratulate Weiland on his accomplishment of 100 wins and to support the Spartan football team as they continue their 2014 season.
